ROLE PURPOSE:

Delivery of non-formal education to refugee and migrant children living in reception sites in Greece and support to Education Officer in managing and organizing the implementation of the other teachers on the assigned site.

SC is looking to hire a number of qualified teachers to deliver a range of learning including Greek, English, literacy and numeracy to girls and boys aged 6-17. Classes will be delivered in temporary classrooms and via mobile units. The Head teacher role would focus on support in management of these teachers as well as general admin and scheduling of lessons, supporting in teacher development and also teaching a smaller number of classes.

Context:

Since August 2015, SC has been responding to the needs of refugee and migrant children in Greece, through Child Protection, Nutrition, provision of basic services and distribution of food and non-food items. The transitory nature of the population previously made the provision of learning opportunities unfeasible. With border closures, children will now remain for longer periods of time in reception sites across the country. The demand for education has already increased. Over 50,000 refugees and migrants are currently stranded in Greece, 38% of whom are under 18. All children are currently out of formal school and the majority are not currently accessing non-formal education activities. SC seeks to mitigate the impact of this disruption to learning for children and adolescents, by providing access to non-formal education, integrating education into the overall response, with strong links to Child Protection programming.
