After years of governmental back-and-forth, delays, and accumulated problems at the island’s hospital, Leros General Hospital has welcomed a new director.
Mr. Stamatis Kardasis, who comes from Ikaria Hospital, arrived on our island with excellent recommendations, and it quickly became apparent that he may be the missing figure needed to improve the situation at the local healthcare facility.
Methodical and courteous, Mr. Kardasis has already made a strong impression on those who have met him in person. He is well-versed in the system and maintains excellent relations with the Director of the 2nd Health Region, Mr. Christos Roilos. From the very beginning, he declined to make public statements and focused solely on his work.
In line with protocol, he met with all relevant stakeholders, both within and outside the hospital, while the Mayor of Leros expressed his support for the new director, stating that solutions to many of the hospital’s longstanding issues would soon be provided. He also pledged to stand by him for whatever is needed.
As part of his outreach efforts, yesterday he held an important meeting with the President and members of the Kalymnos Medical Association’s Board. Critical issues were discussed, including hospital staffing and filling vacant positions, with the Association’s President expressing full solidarity with the new director.
Mr. Kardasis has an impressive background. He is a graduate of the University of Piraeus in Statistics and Security, with experience from major municipalities in Crete, his place of origin. Additionally, he holds a postgraduate degree in “Total Quality Management” from the same university.
